Welcome!

July 17, 2009

This blog contains the story of my attempts to go from what was left of my physical fitness after four months of pregnancy-induced strict bedrest and eight months of being a stay at home mother to taking part in the Virgin London Marathon on Sunday April 25th, 2010.

I am running to raise money for The Miscarriage Association, to try and help support those parents who do not get to bring their babies home when their pregnancy ends too soon.  This is the first time I have ever done anything of this nature for charity but I am so impressed by the work they do, it had to be this charity!

For more information on the whys and hows, please take a look at the About “Brave or Foolish” page.

Please consider sponsoring me. I need to raise a minimum of £1,300 for The Miscarriage Association in order to do my marathon attempt, and I have an extremely long way to go:

My JustGiving Sponsorship Page

On the pages of this blog, found under the “Background” section to the right, there is also considerable background information on me and my own miscarriages – I had two early pregnancy losses – and the support I had.. or didn’t have from medical staff along the way.

On a happier note, there’s also the full story of my against the odds miracle second child; having already had a bad pregnancy so far, a gut feeling led me to pay out for a scan at 18 weeks, which revealed a severely incompetent cervix and I had an emergency cervical stitch in surgery that evening. There were still no guarantees of success and I was told to expect a preemie, but she hung on throughout my four months of strict bedrest and came a month premature, thankfully perfectly healthy, following an emergency c-section in November 2008.

There is also information on The Miscarriage Association. The Miscarriage Association is a charity involved with a very taboo subject, and as a result does not generally get the support other charities get. It is also a small charity so any fundraising goes a long way. For information on how your donation will really help, please take a look at my “Information” page.

You can also sponsor me by cheque (post-dated if you prefer) – if you wish to do this, you can find my contact information on my About Me page in the links to the right.

Please feel free to follow this blog for yourself – there is an RSS feed linked at the bottom right.  And please link to it – the more exposure I get, the greater the money I can raise – I am usually happy to exchange links! There is also a Facebook fan page here which I will cross-post entries to.

  1. I think you definitely fall under the “brave” category. Good luck, and I look forward to reading your blog in the lead up to the marathon (will be posting a link to my blog here.)

    O.

    • Thank you! :-) And thank you for the link! Alas, I cannot make much sense of your blog beyond the pretty pictures, but you knew that would be the case!!

Did you mean to post twice? I am confuzzled!
